Since the post-Apartheid establishment of its representation in Pretoria, the European Union through its European Commission Delegation, has partnered the South African Government in its pursuit of a better life for all its people. The cordial and often close relations between our two parties are governed and impacted upon by a number of Agreements, Protocols and Papers:

The European Commission adopted on 28 June 2006 a Communication proposing a strategic partnership between the EU and South Africa. The document sets out a comprehensive long-term framework for the EU's relations with South Africa, which takes into account the country's position as an anchor in the region and its important role on the African continent.
