Mwalimu Nyerere Programme: Call for Proposals

The Mwalimu Nyerere Programme is the Africa component of the new Intra-ACP Academic Mobility Scheme that supports the development of high level human resources in Africa, as well as the Caribbean and Pacific regions.  It provides funding on a competitive basis to consortia of higher education institutions (HEIs) to arrange mobility for masters and doctoral students and university staff to other HEIs in the respective regions, and to provide scholarships to selected students and staff.  More information on the Intra-ACP Academic Mobility Scheme is available at:
http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/intra_acp_mobility/index_en.php

Applications for funding with respect to the first Call for Proposals published for the programme closed on 6 May 2011. The results of the selection process will be published on:
http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/intra_acp_mobility/funding/2011/call_eacea_35_10_en.php

The next Call is expected to be published towards the end of 2011.

ERASMUS MUNDUS

Erasmus Mundus Partnerships now active in SA

The Erasmus Mundus Programme is the EU's flagship programme for worldwide co-operation in higher education. During the first EU-SA summit held in Bordeaux, France, in July 2008, then Presidents Mbeki, Sarkozy and Barroso, welcomed the development of an Erasmus Mundus South Africa Window. This has now become a reality, with grant contracts having been awarded to three partnerships of EU and SA higher education institutions (HEIs) in July 2010, after a competitive Call for Proposals process, to arrange mobility to Europe for deserving SA students and academics. More information on the partnerships is available at:
http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/erasmus_mundus/results_compendia/selected_projects_action_2_en.php

The contracts awarded to these partnerships provide for 113 masters level students, 76 doctoral students and 42 academics (SA citizens only), to spend some time at European HEIs during the next four years. Students and academics will be selected by the partnerships according to published criteria. Information on the application and selection process adopted by each of the partnerships can be obtained from:

The document below provides information on the participation of SA Higher Education Institutions and the scholarships awarded since 2004. It was prepared by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency, which has overall responsibility for implementing the Erasmus Mundus Programme.
